Great Recipe Sites

Here is a great collection of recipe sites with reviews.

One of the sites that I was not aware of is Cookstr. I will definitely be checking this site out soon. Here is the description:

Cookstr publishes recipes by professional chefs, including Mario Batali, Jamie Oliver, Alice Waters, Jacques Pepin, Michael Recchiuti, Mark Bittman, and on and on. In addition to recipes, the site also provides informative profiles for each chef. Features are fairly minimal, with a video section still under development, but I do like the simplicity of the site. Site registration allows you to save and comment on recipes. Although Cookstr only has a few recipes from each chef, it's the closest thing to a massively cross-cook[book] database I've found. I hope it grows.

The Library also has a great selection of cookbooks in the 641.5 section and many delicious choices in magazines including Cooking Light, Vegetarian Times, Bon Appetit, Cook's Illustrated, Fine Cooking, and Food Network.

Gourmet Magazine to Close

Conde Nast's Gourmet Magazine will cease publication after more than 68 years, along with Cookie, Elegant Bride, and Modern Bride.

Life Magazine on Google Books

The entire run of Life magazine (1936-1972) is now available on on Google Books. You can browse issues by date, search all issues, or search within a particular issue. And best of all, you can look at all of the beautiful photos and read issues from cover to cover.

Take a look to view some websites that have been around for a while and others that are new.

Travel Books

Where did the travel books go? After walking past the Circulation Desk at the front of the Library, make a right turn and travel materials are located to your left. Books from publishers including Fodor's and Frommers and videos from Rick Steves and more can be found here.

Travel materials are located between Dewey Decimal Numbers 910-919. The Pierce County Library has put together this helpful chart of Dewey Decimal Numbers for travel.
